Back with an Announcement!

Class is back in session here at the Mage College, as summer opens up, so do the possibilities for creativity. My finals are in, and unless something really unforeseen happens, I have my Bachelor's Degree! Though that isn't the announcement I'd like to make:

I, with the playtesting, brainstorming help of some friends, am creating my own tabletop RPG. What you can look forward to:

  • High fantasy RPG gaming, based in narrative, supported by rules and mechanics
  • Fast character creation with lots of options, semi-classless system. Make the character you want by combining 4 themes of your choice from a huge list into every character.
  • Only 4 ability scores, balanced so that their is not one over powered skill (looking at you, Dexterity)
  • Players always feel like they have options in and out of combat.
  • Combat is dynamic and dangerous.
  • Mercurial magic, slotless casting, and spell crafting are standard parts of the system.
I hope to have a print and play copy ready by the end of Q3 this year.

Working title is Chronicle & Tale, or CAT if you will. First campaign setting to follow after will be Chronicle & Tale: Tylvein.

  2. Also: mercurial casting? Is that spell building on the fly?

    1. Playtesters will be very welcome once we have more written material!

Mercurial casting is when say, you cast Magic Missile, the spell potency varies with each casting.

General spellcrafting checks will produce magic effects but is more dangerous than tried and tested spells. Why make your own "Dark Firaga" when you could know fireball? However you might not know the spell you need and have to replicate it on the fly.

    2. Generally, design wise, making magic mercurial permits a slot less system.
